Twitter : Ed Gordon on a Black Child's Hair

Ed Gordon on a Black Child's Hair
by Patricia Britt

Ed Gordon posted on Twitter "Everybody who is worried about #BlueIvyHair pls worry about something important. Her parents are millionaires her hair will be fine!

Truer words were never spoken. If it's one thing the Knowles family knows about, it's glamour aside from the shake, rattle, and roll! What struck Ed Gordon to come to the defense of a little girl, or the Carter family, or perhaps most black women? Perhaps he wondered how our own people could be so harsh against one of of our own, or perhaps he was insulted by others outside of our group concentrating envy on  a child, or then again was it just his protective side sharing logic, and amazement that some people would pick on a baby, perhaps displacing their money envy of the parents?

She's a cute toddler, and she should be allowed to be free, without developing a complex, due to outdated one-sided beauty standards. There'll be many years to primp once she becomes a teenager, from different color eye shadows, to what hair accessory for any day of the week.

Entertainment shows picked up the Internet envy as well, and some spoke to defend the purity of the child. Is the world just a more petty place, because everyone has to put their opinion in print, because expression on information pathways is so superficial even though technology offers so much knowledge on a multitude of topics?

Black women have more freedom select styles from natural to straight to store bought in this century giving us wider avenues of expression. Madame CJ Walker, Dudleys, Bonner Brothers have built fortunes on black hair, not to mention Revlon. Spike Lee's movie Schooldaze touched on the topic through song. Chris Rock's Good Hair part one, and soon to come Good Hair part 2 touched on the dangerous chemical process, and the money spent on hair.

Do girls really rule the world? Do you know more how to invest, or are you up to date on who twerks best?
How come we rarely hear about the price of gold these days? And what's going on with that brilliant Google girl http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/eesha-khare-mobile-phone-charger-google-471247). Within a decade we'll have all the knowledge of our universe in the palm of our hand. Where will we be then? Important questions to ponder.

2014 & 2015 Movies Movies Movies Reviews

Malefocent : Anjolina Jolie was magnificent in Malefocent as a defender robbed of her abilities by love. The special effects made the fantasy come to life. Primary audience tweens.

XMen : was back to the future.

Think Like a Man Too : was a twenty, or thirty something adventure into a wild time in Vegas.

Belle : Is a well acted historical film with a hint of love worth seeing centering on the International Slave Trade, and the value of black lives based on a museum portrait.

Beyond the Lights : Was a beautifully well developed jagged love story worth seeing between a petulant star,  and a heroic police officer.

December : Exodus: Gods & Kings Should get an Academy Award for best costume design, however the movie lacked the spirit of heart of the soul, but it is something to see the special effects in 3D glasses. Ramses was well acted, but Yul Bryner will always be King. The movie tried to scientifically simulate the disputed possibilities of how the red sea parted. and its location. The 10 Commandments is still the greatest story ever told. Ridley Scott (Aliens) producer.

Hunger Games : Mocking Jay - Dark stark depiction of life in the future. Mocking Jay 2 might be better.

Annie : is a go see musical about a little girl searching for her parents revising an old classic. On the way she finds an unlikely love that gives her opportunities as a witty foster kid with an open heart, Quvenzhane Wallis is a loveable precocious. It's one of Carmen Diaz's best roles. Jamie Foxx singing is added to the production. The filming of the NY city scape is worth seeing. The film is for kids, yet it's enjoyable for adults.

Unbroken :  Unbroken is the story of Louis Zamperini an Olympian, soldier, and war hero. Angelina Jolie produced a courageous film with Unbroken's layers of feeling exploring the strength of the human spirit, beginning with love, and encouragement allowing one the capacity to withstand insufferable odds with faith, accented by special effects makes it a strong Oscar contender, if not overlooked.

Selma : Ava Duvernay's captured the brutality, and urgency the times required to motivate equality through what the people of Selma, and it's compassionate volunteers endured to march, and change the laws that bound them to secure the vote nearly 100 years after Reconstruction ended by crossing a bridge. They stood up to free themselves in their encounter with incredible good, and evil to unite the country through fairness to all its citizens. The conversational tension between Reverend Martin Luther King, and President Lyndon B. Johnson could have been more multidimensional, driven by more spirituality, and credit.

In addition the love story should have showed more glory with respect to this regal couple even in the middle of a love crisis in a once in a lifetime relationship carrying the weight of the South, and the eyes of the world on their shoulders, although their quiet strength was reflected in the film. Dr. King would have had to mantle all his soul persuasion to hang on to his dream love after his transgression. The love story is yet to be told on film, however the complex subject matter of the film, and quality of the mood created transfixed the audience, and is worthy of Oscar consideration.

The Longest Ride: Was a pleasant thoughtful romantic movie about achieving your athletic goals, and art appreciation rapped in love letter flash back sequences of a Jewish couples quest for wholeness, and a young couple getting to know each other with just a kiss, dignity, and respect taking it slow.

Furious 7: Was a photographically sweeping movie with lots of adrenaline, stunts, technology, and witty dialog well worth seeing for a thrill ride.Tyrese gibson was the brother you love, Ludicris was ready for anything, The Rock was waiting for a chance. Vin Diesel was multi layered with a lot going on. Jason Statham was not to played with. Paul Walker (died in a car crash in 2014) and his brother finalized the series with a marvelous eloquence. This was a film for the guys, and definitely the ladies. woo woo!

MSU :Summer Solstice Jazz Festival Review

by Patricia Britt
The Summer Solstice Jazz Festival is an annual June weekend event to remember. Diego Rivera’s Quartet ( CD:  The Contender  ) saxophone set was widely appreciated by the audience with intense vibrations, and melodic melodies. Diego Rivera (www.diegoriverajazz.com), a member of The Professors of Jazz is style in motion. The East Lansing Jazz Band’s Night in Tunisia nuanced with a drum interlude was well received. The Root Doctor’s ( CD: New Attitude ) bluesy organ driven songs, and Aguanko’s Latin horns had the audience out of their seats. Aguanko’s sophisticated base, drums were also noteworthy. CD due out at the end of 2014. Planet D Nonet did a Sun Ra tribute at the Eli Broad Art Museum.

It was another great event for the www.eljazzfest.com, Rodney Whitacker, Artistic Director.

TV ~ Te Quiero Tanto ~ Jennifer Lopez vs Wendy Williams

by Patricia Britt

Occasionally one of your favorite stars will be scheduled on the Wendy Williams show.

June 19, 2014 Jennifer Lopez navigated the guantlet of the Wendy Williams interview with style, sincerity, super class, and sweetness, yet ready for a challenge in Williams star game competition in her stiletto heels.

Working to promote her new CD AKA with a gorgeous picture in red leather giving her a chance to show what she's made of as always through the media tour. In relationships she says she sees the inside not the surface, and that's probably what keeps the busy mom grounded.

Jennifer Lopez understands the concept of love " You gotta love the love " whether in, or out of a relationship.

Her next movie role will probably be a block buster when she gets a chance at another sensational character. In the time being I'm sure she's content to be an international dream girl, and clothing designer www.kohls.com/jenniferlopez, www.jenniferlopez.com.

She revealed she reads self help books, and is always searching to be a better person.

Role Models : Men of Measure ~ John Conyers ~ Carl Levin ~ Julian Bond

by Patricia Britt
John Conyers  ( Proposed water shut offs and more http://www.huffingtonpost.com/john-conyers )  has weathered many storms, and had his metal tested, yet elevated above the racism he had to endure in his early years that allowed him to be the role model that he is today. I project he must have internalized the guiding universal principles of manhood  Hollywood produced in it’s golden age that impacted him to look out for the weak, and to be strong for the many.

I had the privilege to observe Carl Levin, and Debbie Stabenow too in my early work career path. By osmosis I learned if you treat the highest, or the lowest with respect you will have the esteem of many and reach your goals with support.
I also had the privilege to meet Julian Bond in a short conversation, and he is all anyone could ever want in a father of so many imparting wisdom seen on television over decades of time.

These people answered the call, set the pace in the quest for equality, and dignity standing up for everyone's rights. Though they were capable of ascending to the presidency times prevented them, however they made a path to achievement.
